Community foundation accepting grant applications

Friday, January 31st, 2020

WASHINGTON, Kan.— The Washington County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for spring grants. Online applications are due Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

Last spring, the community foundation granted the Fair Association funding to purchase new blow-molded chairs for events. Previously, if someone wanted to rent the facility and have nicer chairs, they would have to haul the chairs in from another location such as the firehouse or school. “The fair superintendents appreciate having more comfortable chairs to sit on while working at the fair,” said grantee Lori Huber. With the replacement chairs, patrons can have a better experience attending the fair, as well as those who use the fairground for events and fundraisers.

“The project would not have happened without the funding from the grant,” said Huber. “Many people will use and appreciate the chairs during upcoming activities held at the fair.”

This year, $12,000 in grant funding is available for charitable community improvement projects within the Washington County area. Grants will be awarded from the following funds:

  • Washington County Opportunity Fund – available for projects that improve the quality of life for Washington County.
  • Hanover Community Fund – available for projects that address the present and future needs of Hanover, KS.
  • Clifton Community Fund – available for projects that address the present and future needs of Clifton, KS.

Grants are limited to communities in Washington County and will be awarded through a competitive application process. Nonprofit organizations, government and public entities, educational institutions and churches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on April 1.
